Bartleby is an educational platform from Barnes and Nobles that aims to support students with their courses and homework, online, anywhere they are. They provide several other services in order to complement the student’s learning process such as textbook practice exercise, tutoring, and essay checkers. What was happening?

Bartleby approached Ruca to help optimize and push forward a new and scaling platform. Several products within their ecosystem were presenting engagement and navigation issues, which made the learning experience for students a lot more difficult than it should be. At the same time, the idea was to create a broader design system for the whole design team to use.

Role and goals

At first, my role was consulting on a couple of small features that were to be released quickly, but soon after the first tasks were completed, my team integrated completely to their team and became their design support system for the “Learn” features of their platform. I led the team of 3 designers and my main role was UX foundation, design and testing for new features. We ran interviews, held UX exercises with their team and tested out more than 15 new features that were successfully released.

How I gave value to the project

Our team was a great support for the upcoming features the client was trying to release. I lead the team in their intense journey to improve the experience students have when browsing for explanations or searching for help within the website.
